About 23 mm. Back name Jackson and slogan are what appears to be finely excised/engraved. In outer circle is “Jackson” above and below “Victory”. In inner circle next to shank is “American Standard”. PC77 in Albert shows this as having a blank front and is a one-piece button dated for the 1828 election. Albert NA 66E is a very early (pre-1830 and all were one-piece) Naval Officers clothing button. This button was apparently made by using a mold with the obverse of NA 66E (military) and the reverse of PC77 (political), suggesting that the same company made the original versions of both buttons. The on-edge views give you a better look at the mating of each side to each other. Very well done. Unlisted by Albert as either a naval or political button, so very likely this design was unknown at the time he wrote the book (1973). Exceptionally rare and near mint with surface still bright. No flaws except tiny light marks which can only be seen under loupe. Shallow back design imprinting but can be clearly seen under directed light reflection under loupe. Frankly we were stunned when we first saw this button, especially it's great condition. This is pure speculation but several things come to mind. This could be a sample button never produced except for whatever samples that were made. This could be a specially commissioned button by a Naval Officer (supporting Jackson since both halves are circa 1828?). More research will be needed.
