Certificate from Charles Gehrig who attested he made the penholder from wood recovered from the Lincoln Springfield residence when undergoing repairs authorized by the Illinois General Assemble. Dated August 16, 1900. Appears the certificate was transmitted back to Gehrig from the Secretary of State since the Clerk to the Supreme Court (ILL) notarized. Frame is loose. Certificate has a tear along the top and should be restored with frame secured. Wooden penholder and Lincoln metal medallion appear fine. Nice artifact with direct Lincoln association. Certificate visible about 10 ¾” x 8 ¼”. Note that it appears several people had access during restoration but only a few offer certificates which are signed in some manner by state officials
