Many of you who are serious about collecting artifacts relating to the Founding Fathers are often stymied because very little material exists for the first 3 or four US Presidents. When something does come along that is of the period it has a tendency to generate excitement across the hobby. We believe this artifact will qualify as one which will generate that high level of excitement. It is a period John Adams bowl with a transfer in the bottom that shows a portrait of Adams and below a caption that clearly indicates he is the sitting President. This bowl will excite collectors simple because of what it is. However, it has great provenance. This is a collected example that has come directly from the legendary collection of S. Robert Teitelman of Collingswood, New Jersey. Over a lifetime of collecting spanning 55+ years he amassed well over 200 pieces of Liverpool creamware relating to the American market. Before his death in 2008 he collaborated on an incredible book on these items called “Success To America Creamware For The American Market” published by Antique Collector’s Club Woodbridge Suffolk England in 2010 after his death. About 50 artifacts from the collection now make up the core of the creamware collection of the extraordinary Winterthur Museum in Wilmington, Delaware and the rest were auctioned by Northeast Auctions in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. This example came to us indirectly from the auction which liquidated the remaining items from that collection. It is also cataloged in the book under Appendix II which documents the part of the collection not retained by the museum and is actually the very first listing in that appendix. This bowl is about 9 7/8” in diameter and 4 ½” tall. An effort was made in the past to seal and professionally restore very faint hairlines which were minor and provide touch up to the original transfer and the result is not only spectacular but one of the best efforts we have seen. This artifact is ready for immediate enjoyment worry-free. In our research we have also discovered an additional benefit for the new owner. We thought we found an example of this bowl selling at public auction in addition to the Northwest auction. We were wrong. This bowl has a John Adams transfer applied which is a VARIATION of the bowl which sold in a Heritage 2008 auction for over $15,500. An image of that variation is provided as the last image below for you to make a comparison. The bowl sold by Heritage had the transfer fixed on the side of the bowl and this example contains its Adams transfer on the inside bottom of the bowl. We have found no other public auction which has sold an example of this exact bowl. Clearly an artifact for the serious Founding Fathers, 19th century collector, generalist political memorabilia collector, or specialist collector. We are honored to be able to provide this opportunity to you. Estimate: $15,000-20,000
