About 6 5/8” x 5” visible. Modern frame and is loose and we will like dismount and ship without frame. Print “Drawn Engraved & Published by W. Birch at Springland near Bristol Pennsylv”. Birch (1755-1834) made a very successful career for himself as an enamellist and engraver in England. Birch moved to Philadelphia in 1794 and was noted for many city scene engravings of Philadelphia all published from about 1798 to about 1810. Most of the ones we found were also hand-colored. This print was not colored although an example of this print in color is contained in the Mt Vernon Museum. Interestingly, his street scene engravings in Philadelphia are sold in an art gallery for several thousand dollars each. Clearly a noted and important engraver. We believe this is an original first printing.
Early Engraved Print “Mount Vernon, Virginia, the Seat of the late Genr G. Washington” Circa 1800-08
